The Chairperson of the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) Board Dr Dorothy Okello will join Next Practices Live at 5pm (East African time) for an online discussion on the role the Commission is playing to help Uganda in fighting COVID-19.
Next Practices Live is a platform for interviews with world experts, executives and regulatory professionals on their next practices, including responses to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is organised by the Public Utility Research Centre (PURC) at the University of Florida in the United States; an internationally recognised academic centre dedicated to research and training in utility regulation and strategy. The centre strives to enhance the understanding of issues confronting public utilities and regulatory agencies through conferences, seminars and training programmes.
Dr Okello will discuss how UCC and operators are serving their customers and how the financial health of telecom companies is being monitored.
A highly regarded academician and professional in Uganda, Dr Okello is well placed to do justice to the discussion. Besides being Chairperson of the board at UCC, she is Dean of the School of Engineering at the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT) at Makerere University, and a researcher with netLabs!UG, a telecommunications and networking research centre within CEDAT. She is also Director of Innovation at ResilientAfrica Network at the Makerere University School of Public Health.
Next Practices Live have advised that the session will utilise Zoom meeting technology. Participants using a tablet or smart phone will need to have dowloaded the Zoom app in advance. However, with a limited 300 connections for this presentation, those who can’t join Live can expect to get the presentation when it is archived online at the Public Utility Research Centre (PURC) web site in video and audio formats.
